There was some concern that the March 11 Japan earthquake and following tsunami damage could have delayed the launch of Sony’s upcoming portable game system, codenamed NGP. Bloomberg reported that there was some disruption in production after the disasters that struck Japan’s eastern coast, but now Sony is working against that, telling us not to worry about any kind of delays. Seriously, they say, forget what president Jack Tretton said earlier.

“So far we see no impact from the quake on our launch plan,” said Sony Computer Entertainment spokesman Satoshi Fukuoka to Nikkei. He added that the company will continue monitoring the situation, but it looks like we’re still on track for a late 2011 release. We are to expect staggered regional launches later this year.

I think TGS will be an exciting time with both the NGP and the just-released 3DS on the floor.
