Guitar-controlled platformer Fret Nice hits PSN this week

According to a tweet by Fret Nice developer Pieces Interactive, the guitar-controlled platformer Fret Nice hits PlayStation Network in North America this week. Europe has received a vague “coming soon,” so hold tight.

Fret Nice uses guitar controllers to control an on-screen characters, taking control over something called a “Vibrant Chordblaster.” I’ve spent a bit of time with the game and found the use of the controller unique, but issues with hardware (i.e. a Guitar Hero‘s “star power” tilt — which makes your player jump — not working) made some of the experience frustrating. But when it worked, it was neat enough that I’m definitely interested in spending some more time with the game. (Note: The game can also be played with a standard controller… but why?)

No word on the Xbox LIVE Arcade release or price, but I’ve put word in to the game’s publisher, Tecmo, for these pressing questions. I’ll update as the info comes in.

[Update: Tecmo has let us know that Fret Nice will be $14.99 on PSN; no word yet on an Xbox LIVE release, but it’s coming.]
