DSi Ll could have been: DSi Comfort, DSi Living, or worse

Nintendo is the king of silly names (calm down, fanboys). Wii? C’mon. Nintendo 64? I’m still pissed about that. The name for their bigger-screened DSi, the DSi LL, fits. It’s not elegant, but it works, and it let’s you know you’re getting something large and in charge.

But what about the names they passed on? Crap. All of them. Here are some of the turds:

  • DSi XL (sounds fat)
  • DSi Comfort (really?
  • DSi Living (Ha! That’s such a Japanese name)
  • DSi Premium (eh…)
  • DSi Executive (*shuts briefcase, adjusts glasses)
  • DSi Deka (Japanese for “large”)

The DSi XL was almost a go for the whole world. No one wants a game system that sounds like a shirt size.

The Iwata Asks article also explains that there was at one time a DS Lite LL, which is just a size-boosted DS Lite. No cameras or SD slot or anything.

Back to the LL name, how about DSi Big Screen. That sounds nice and redneck-y, doesn’t it?
