Android getting a games-on-demand service

Recommended Videos

The Android OS is not a competitive games platform, no matter how many people bitch at us for not covering it enough. However, that doesn’t mean it’ll suck forever, and one company is making the first step toward competition — offering a games-on-demand service.

Exent is bringing its GameTanium service to Android devices, offering access to over 100 titles for a monthly fee. Games can be accessed 24/7, with Exent adding new games every week. It’ll launch in February with a free seven-day trial.

GameTanium will sport all the features you’d expect from a gaming portal, with  featured content, recommendations, ratings, and trailers all to be included. Right now it’s only for phones, but a tablet version is in the works.

This is an interesting venture and I’m keen to see how it pans out, and what the quality of games will be. It seems difficult to make Android users part with their cash, so I’m eager to see how many shell out a monthly subscription. If this succeeds, it could open a new avenue for the OS, and give me a lot more to write about!
