CES: Razer Onza Xbox 360 controllers are slick

I got my paws on the Razer Onza Tournament Edition controllers today here at CES. The main draw with this controller is that you can use a wheel at the base of each analog stick to dial in your preferred resistance level. You could have your movement stick loose for quick turning while your aiming stick is set tight, for precise pointing. It’s one of those things that you never knew you needed until you try it.

I’m a horrible shooter player, but even I could instantly see the appeal of the Onza after using it for a few minutes. A simple twist of the dial on the sticks makes a huge difference; they go from liquidy and loose to firm and resistant very easily. There’s also quite a bit of room for fine tuning.

Aside from the tweakable sticks, there’s a shoulder buttons that you can map another control to. Like a cheater. The face buttons are also quite nice with their backlighting and their fancy action. They have a response time like that of a quick mouse click; using the Onza makes the standard controller seem mushy in comparison.

Beyond this, the controller comes with a long cable that you can also feel free to plug into your PC.

The Onza Tournament Edition won’t be available for a couple of weeks. When they are, you can buy one for $49.99.
