Nintendo has filed a request with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to trademark the pop-culture phrase “It’s on like Donkey Kong.” It’s been used on TV, in films, on the web, and in nerdy situations like gaming tournaments. Nintendo has labeled it a pop culture phrase, and this would make Donkey Kong a pop culture icon.
Those slicksters at Nintendo are tying this trademarked phrase to the upcoming release of Wii game Donkey Kong Country Returns. They’d like you to know that on Nov. 21, It’s on like Donkey Kong. See what they did there?
