Arc the Lad, Alundra took one year to bring to PSN

In my mind I see the process of dumping a PlayStation game to the PlayStation Network as an almost instant one. Someone somewhere hits a button and the offering pops up for us to buy. The way I see it, the games are already done and there’s not much besides some simple porting code to do. Maybe I’m wrong.

I’m definitely wrong in the case of two new RPGs for PSN, Alundra and Arc the Lad. John Greiner, CEO of MonkeyPaw Games, tells Siliconera that the licensing was a bit of a hassle. In fact, he says it took about a year to be able to bring these games to PSN.

Since the games were published long ago, its hard to find the decision-makers on deals like these, especially in a huge Japanese multi-national company like Sony.

Greiner does say that Sony was accommodating when he did get it all worked out. It’s all about perseverance, he says. I’m glad they went to the trouble.

And while we’re talking about RPGs and MonkeyPaw, it should be noted that they’ve teased more RPG releases for the future. Expect the continuation of the Arc series as well.
