Good news on Silent Hill 8’s direction from designer

Recommended Videos

I’m constantly keeping tabs on Silent Hill 8. The series is at the top of my list, and I’m very excited about how this is looking/sounding so far. I think I’m a bit more open than your typical Silent Hill fan, which I’ve been calling a “purist” lately. See, I really enjoyed both Silent Hill: Homecoming and Silent Hill: Shattered Memories, unlike some others that expect every game to be the next Silent Hill 2. I’m open for any interpretation as long as they don’t blindly insult older characters and monsters as fan service. Quit it with that sh*t!

A Czech game site called Doupe interviewed Silent Hill 8 lead designer Mark Berka, and everything that came out of that review lets me know that the game is on the right track. I’ll break out some of the positive bulletpoints:

  • Silent Hill 2 is a primary influence for atomsphere
  • No inspiration comes from the film [aww, no tit ripping?]
  • They are working with key development members from the series
  • The game focuses on psychological horror rather than survival horror

Do your thing, Vatra. It sounds like you’ve got a good mindset. Between this information and what I pulled from Tom Waltz, the writer behind Silent Hill 8, I think we’re in good hands.
