Suda 51: Killer7 sequel will ‘probably never happen’

Recommended Videos

A fair few of the Destructoid editors are big fans of Killer7, so it’s particularly distressing to hear that game creator Suda 51 has essentially given up on the idea of revisiting the fantastically dark and delirious IP. Revealing that a sequel is highly unlikely, the eccentric designer has put paid to the idea of us ever revisiting the Smiths.

“Unfortunately, Capcom own the rights, so it’ll probably never happen,” admits the developer, who also revealed he used to be an undertaker before he made games, and his experiences affected how he wanted to portray death in his creative work.

Very sad news indeed. Killer7 had a whole shopping list of faults, but it still remains one of the most original, engrossing and frankly insane videogames in history. It’s genuinely disappointing to think that the game now sits in Capcom’s vaults, destined to never see the light of day again. I absolutely hate it when a good IP gets locked down by publishers that won’t touch it.
