Obsidian has revealed that its unreleased and thoroughly canceled RPG set in the Aliens universe was by no means an easily disposable project. In fact, the Alpha Protocol developer claims the game felt “ready to ship” and was as good as done. Ouch.

“Oh, if you had come in and played any of the last builds we were working on, you would have said it was a finished game,” declares CEO Feargus Urquhart. “That’s how close we were. It looked and felt like it was ready to ship.”

It was sad to see the game canceled, although given the fact Sega had two Aliens games on the go at once, this third one was an inevitable candidate for the rubbish bin. Still, who knows? Maybe if Alpha Protocol turns out really well, Obsidian could get another crack of the whip with this. I certainly hope so.
