Star Trek Online canceled for consoles

If you were looking forward to playing Star Trek Online with a home console, I have some bad news. Confirmation came down today that the game has been canceled.

Speaking to videogamer.com, Cryptic Games Executive Producer Craig Zinkievich said, “It’s pretty much in the same boat as the Champions console version right now,” alluding to the similar cancellation of the developer’s other console effort.

This sucks and it doesn’t. On the one hand, I don’t really want to get myself sucked into an MMO and not having access to it on my preferred way to play games would help prevent that. But it’s Star Trek and I really love that universe, so I’m a little disappointed that I’m almost certainly never going to play it now.
