CES 2010: Over 3.8 million PS3s sold this holiday

Recommended Videos

At the Sony Electronics press conference at CES today, Kaz Hirai announced that this past holiday season was the most successful holiday for the PlayStation 3.

What that means is that following the last week of November, over 3.8 million units were sold worldwide. Sony is saying that’s a 76% increase over the previous year, no doubt partly in fact due to the introduction of the slim PS3 model, along with the console’s price drop.

According to Hirai, 1.7 million of the 3.8 million were sold in North America alone. Were you among one of those new adopters? If so, what took you so long? Was it the price drop, the size drop, or the games?
