While Mad Catz’ wireless N adapter may not be as sleek as the official Microsoft device, it has a few good things going for it. Namely, its price — $79.99 compared to Microsoft’s $100 asking price — and the fact that it works with both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
The cheaper MSRP has caused people to speculate that Microsoft may react negatively, similar to the situation with unauthorized memory units from Datel. Eurogamer spoke with Mad Catz’ Alex Verrey, who says this is not going to be the case.
“They can’t lock it out and nor would they want to,” he says. Because the wireless adapter plugs into consoles via an Ethernet port, “both consoles pick it up as a wired connection.”
“Microsoft is a licensee of ours,” Verrey continues. “We would never ever do anything to put Microsoft’s nose out of joint as it were, and we would never look to battle against them in any way by producing a cheap knock-off product.”
