Progression: Assassin’s Creed II to have plenty of it

Recommended Videos

In the latest developer diary for Assassin’s Creed 2, the devs behind the videogame discuss the importance of progression. Unlike the previous AC, people won’t be spoon-fed a line of combat options as specific core plot points are met. Ezio is an industrious fellow, able to learn moves from different factions and able to buy new equipment such as armor and weapons from in-game vendors. This approach, as described in the video, is a direct attempt to avoid stagnation — a good thing as noted in our book “Things to Avoid in a Sequel” (coming this Fall).

During all the progression discussion, a historian pops in to talk a bit about the period and architecture. We were surprised to see one, considering all of the footage of Ezio flying around like a 15th century Batman. Which, by the way, isn’t a bad thing as we’ve noted in our book “Batman and You: the importance of Da Vinci’s sketches on modern society and videogames” (coming this Spring).
