TGS 09: Tsumuji, EA’s Japan-developed DS game

Recommended Videos

During today’s EA Press Conference held in Tokyo, we were treated to a glimpse of the very first footage ever shown on a brand new title for the DS. Called Tsumuji (which means “Whirlwind”), the game immediately reminded me in style and tone of The Legend of Zelda: The Phantom Hourglass — and I mean that as a major compliment.

The game places you in the role of a ninja of indeterminable gender (it looks pretty, but could be male — this is Japan-developed, after all) who appears to be on an adventure that will involve puzzle-solving, a bit of platforming and lots of other good fun. In the footage we were shown, the game shows the action on both top and bottom screens, with the player moving the stylus on the bottom screen to move and perform attacks.

Whirlwind is being produced by Taka Murakami and is currently slated for a Spring 2010 release in Japan. I’m sure we’ll see this title localized for the US in the future, so keep an eye out for it. It certainly has the kind of charm that I’m always hoping to see more of.
