How to get honeycomb in Minecraft

Sweet like honey.

Minecraft has a lot of items and materials for players to gather that are quite obscure on how to obtain them. Such is the case with how to get honeycomb in Minecraft. It may sound simple enough to get, but there are some strange items players need first before they are able to get the elusive honeycomb, plus a fair bit of danger.

How to get honeycomb

As you might expect, you can get honeycomb in Minecraft from the beehives and bee nests that you find randomly throughout the world. If you are having a hard time locating one of these, I recommend looking in the grassier biomes in the world and avoiding the swamps, deserts, and snowy areas. You can usually locate one of these by the swarming bees surrounding the beehive.

Once you locate a beehive, you need to ensure you have some shears on you. Yes, the same shears that are used to get wool from sheep and the like. You can make shears at the crafting table using just two iron ingots. Once you have the shears, use them on the beehive to obtain the honeycomb. However, there is a little bit of a catch with this, as you will likely make the bees inside the hive quite angry.

The bees are likely to attack you as soon as you grab the honeycomb, so be ready to either fight or run for your life. Bees are quite annoying and hard to target, so I recommend running away from them if you can. They are easy enough to outrun, as long as you aren’t too hungry and can sprint.

What to use honeycomb for in Minecraft

Honeycomb is one of the more low key useful items in Minecraft and it comes down to the various items you can use it for. Here is the full list of items that require honeycomb for you to craft or make in the game at this time:

  • Beehive
  • Candle
  • Honeycomb block
  • Waxed copper items (such as stairs and blocks)

The beehives are great for guaranteeing a limitless supply of honeycomb at your home, so long as you don’t miss making them a little mad each time you take some. Candles are also great as a smaller and very aesthetic source of light. Then there are the copper blocks, which will oxidize unless you mix them with honeycomb to prevent this.

Finally, the last use for honeycomb is you can use it on your signs. When you do this, it prevents every other player from being able to edit your signs in the world. This is great if you happen to deal with a lot of griefers who mess with your stuff.
