Helldivers 2’s patch 1.000.103 fixes the paper-mache mechs, kind of

Because a lumbering exosuit's no good when it breaks itself!

Helldivers 2 is a treasure trove of live-service goodness, ranging from a player-friendly “battle pass” to an ever-evolving storyline that continues from the original game, albeit 100 years in the future. Hotfixes come part and parcel here, and the latest one may be a huge boon for mech users.

Notably, even though Helldivers 2‘s exosuit mechs were a hotly anticipated addition ahead of their bombastic release, they proved to be fairly fragile in the grand scheme of things. Things have been so bad that despite the mechs’ extremely destructive capabilities, players have been mocking their cardboard-tier defenses. This problem was exacerbated further by an issue with the mechs’ rocket pods, wherein turning too quickly and firing a missile off would insta-gib the mech and the poor Helldiver caught inside of it. Patch 1.000.103 should resolve that at last!

Helldivers 2: Patch 1.000.103 comes with a slew of tweaks and fixes, and some rebalancing for good measure

Helldivers 2‘s update 1.000.103 isn’t particularly large, and it sadly doesn’t come with a suite of balancing updates for some of the game’s woefully underperforming small arms. Instead, it primarily focuses on two things:

  • A shake-up for the game’s many, many different planetary hazards
  • EXO-45 Patriot mech fixes and improvements

With this in mind, players can expect to have a slightly easier time dealing with hazards such as meteor showers and fire tornadoes. Meteor showers, in particular, have had their explosion radius, damage, and velocity reduced, with improved meteor visibility to make spotting them easier in combat. Similarly, the volcanic activity hazard should be slightly less punishing in practice, which could be a huge boon on the higher difficulties.

As for the unfortunate EXO-45 Patriot exosuit, Helldivers should no longer be able to kill themselves while firing off a missile in the middle of an exciting turning maneuver. Further, the mech will now retain its melee functionality upon taking damage, which isn’t a huge deal, but it’s still a welcome fix in and of itself.

Aside from these boons, there’s also the fact that enemy patrols should no longer be able to spawn literally on top of Helldiver fireteams. This has been a growing concern with the community for some time now for obvious reasons, and Arrowhead appears to have resolves the issue with the new update.

Now, even though the game’s 1.000.103 update seems humble on paper, we recommend keeping in mind that Helldivers 2 seems to have a thing for undocumented patch notes. The previous update appears to have introduced strange blue lasers into the mix, as well as flying Terminid creatures, which has made the community suspicious of the Illuminate’s potential return. Who knows what Arrowhead has changed in the background, in other words!
