WiiWare is ‘easier’ than XBLA

Swords & Soldiers developer Ronimo Games loves WiiWare. Its RTS game hit Nintendo’s online service recently and has been very well received. Lucky for Wii fans then, that Ronimo Games will be more than happy to develop for WiiWare in the future.

It’s so easy to get your games out there! It’s much harder on Xbox Live,” explains the studio’s Fabian Akker. It was tough at first to get a license from Nintendo – we were just kids from school — but THQ helped us a lot.

“It’s an open platform, it’s relatively cheap and it gives you loads of freedom. And the Wii controls are perfect for the game. I found it really weird that there were no RTS games on the Wii. The Remote’s pointer is perfect for the genre.”

Akker says that the next game will “probably be on WiiWare too,” and that sounds like a good thing. WiiWare may be easy to develop for, but that led to a lot of rubbish games. A good WiiWare developer should be grabbed onto with both hands, so it’s good for the service that Ronimo Games has had such a pleasant experience.
