Valve finally got around to releasing the Authoring Tools for Left 4 Dead over the weekend, and we’ve just now gotten around to covering it. The toolset is in beta form currently, but the plan is to open up matchmaking to allow for custom campaigns in the coming weeks.
The Authoring Tools, which can be downloaded by going to the “Tools” tab in Steam, allow for users to create and integrate their own maps, character skins, 3D models, sound effects, and music into Left 4 Dead. In other words, you are only going to be limited by your imagination (and your technical know-how).
It’s hard to say if Left 4 Dead will get the same amount of fan support that Team Fortress 2 continues to receive, but here’s hoping for the best. The one thing I truly wanted above all else to come from the modding community is already happening, so I’m pleased. What kind of content do you all want to see?
