Prototype boss says open-world games are hard to make

Radical dev boss Tim Bennison has been telling VG247 about the perils of creating an open-world game like Prototype, stating that sandbox titles will always be a tough prospect, and just get tougher to make the closer they get to becoming a finished product.

“Developing any open-world game starts at a difficulty level of ‘hard’ – it doesn’t start easy and it certainly doesn’t get any easier as you move towards your gold master candidate,” he explains. “The pressure to get Prototype right has always remained high. Having said that, the entire team at Radical is dedicated to making this game exceed expectations on all fronts. Prototype will bring an experience that gamers have never had before.”

We’re edging ever closer to Prototype‘s June 9 release and I can’t wait. While I can only imagine how difficult it is to make an open-world game, the results so far look ridiculously fun and I am really hopeful that Radical creates an empowering, enjoyable ride. It’ll be hard to stuff up a game where you throw screaming victims into airborne helicopters.
