The Glory Society suspends operations, Revenant Hill effectively canceled

One hill too many.

The Glory Society posted an announcement on Twitter today stating that they have decided to “suspend operations” and that “this is the end of the development of Revenant Hill.”

According to the announcement, the team has disbanded after two members had to depart due to health reasons. Considering the small size of the team, the task of replacing even two members was too difficult. They also cite the “schedules, budgets, and fraught task of reworking the whole project” as reasons why the team has decided to call it quits.

Glory Society’s Scott Benson, in a separate Tweet, has said that he has been diagnosed with severe heart failure, most likely resulting from a virus, and that it will “greatly limit [him] for the foreseeable future.”

The team was working on Revenant Hill. It was set to be a game about a cat trying to make ends meet at the edge of a graveyard. Notably, it involved the co-creators of Night in the Woods. The art style is pretty unmistakable. The game was shown off as part of the May 2023 PlayStation Showcase, but unfortunately, it sounds like it isn’t to be.

The Glory Society’s announcement goes on to say that “after the dust has settled, perhaps we’ll talk about what we’ve made and learned together.”

Like most creative endeavors, game development requires a great deal of dedication and passion. Setbacks are the truest test of both those things, and overcoming them proves a lot more than any individual success. Hopefully, this isn’t the last we hear from the individual developers of The Glory Society.
