GDC 09: Nintendo talks DSi reservations, WarioWare Snapped

Recommended Videos

WarioWare Snapped! (DSiWare), Nintendo’s latest insane yet oh so fun to play collection of wacky mini-games, was shown off during Satoru Iwata’s keynote address at this year’s GDC.

Joining oh so many other portable games that make you look like an absolute fool in public, Snapped! uses the DSi’s internal camera to detect your head and hand movements as a means of control, and even displays a replay of your actions upon completion of each mini-game.

Also shown on display at the keynote was the familiar DSi application Moving Memo which lets the more creative types draw and animate their pictures. As Dale North informs us, a car was drawn on stage and Iwata actually said “vroom vroom vroom.” That’s how Nintendo rolls, folks.

Last but not least, Nintendo discussed how well the DSi has been doing in terms of reservations, and let’s just say it’s looking like another money printer. Amazon reports that reservations have been higher than any other system in the Web site’s history, and GameStop says they’ve received twice as many for the DSi as they got for the DS.

Not surprising in the least bit. Note: This post will be updated with actual assets of WarioWare Snapped! if/when we get them. Thanks for understanding!
