The League of Gentlemen is one of the greatest sketch shows of all time. A dark comedy with running plotlines, it was both innovative, horrific and hilarious. This week’s video pays tribute to one of the League‘s most popular characters, Dr. Chinnery, a veterinarian who can’t save a single animal from some sort of horrendous death. Enjoy.
Also, we played games. You can hit the jump to read which ones. At least from those of us who aren’t currently heading out to GDC.
Hamza: I blasted through Resident Evil 5 and am making my way through Henry Hatsworth. Henry HatsworthResident Evil 5 is an absolutely delightful experience! , however, was a gigantic disappointment for me. I’m playing through it a second time to see if I feel the same way.
Jim: I saw you Tweeting your disappointment. I can’t say it let me down too bad at all. What didn’t you like?
Conrad: I played Resident Evil 5 in short spurts as well, but I’m not even at the halfway point yet and I don’t feel compelled to press on. The game is fun from an action perspective but the story… Ugh. I watched my roommate finish it off last night and it was the most absurdly stupid thing I’ve ever seen in the series. While Resident Evil has always had non-sensical elements, over-the-top bosses and retarded dialogue, this really kicked things up a notch and went beyond being funny to just feeling dumb.
Henry Hatsworth calls to me and I can’t wait to spend time in airports on the way to and from GDC next week so that I have an excuse to play it some more. A great, great game. I also played a touch of Peggle on XBLA which is, well, Peggle. But is it just me or does the ball seem bouncier than normal on this 360 port?
Hamza: A lot, to the point that I’m going to write an article about it all. I think my main thing is that the game is now an action game with no survival horror elements at all. Also, the game was horribly balanced.
Topher: I have not been playing anything that you wouldn’t have already guessed I was playing.
Jim: Fair enough. I don’t think it was very different from RE4 at all, but whatever. I look forward the article for sure.
For me, it’s been the aforementioned RE5, but most of my time has been working on DS review copies. I’ve been playing plenty of Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars, and have become thoroughly absorbed with Suikoden Tierkreis. My review will explain why, but I really, really like that game. I also have Valkyrie Profile for DS which is sitting on my desk. I intend to give it a go in a second.
Oh, and Henry Hatsworth is shrink-wrapped on my desk as well. That’s my reward for getting these other DS games reviewed.
Samit: I have not been playing anything that you wouldn’t have already guessed I was playing.
Jim: Samit’s been playing The World Ends With You. Topher’s been playing Def Jam: Icon.
Samit: Actually, Topher’s been playing MLB 09 The Show, and I’ve been playing Disgaea 3. >_> <_<
Grim: I think the only new game I played this week that I don’t already play every week was Rayman, which I downloaded from the PSP Store. Awesome game, but it’s roughly ten times more difficult than I remember it being back when I had the PC version years and years ago.
J. Holes:Bit.Trip Beat…
holy shit…
Colette: Lots of games this week….for DS, My Pet Shop, Henry Hatsworth and Peggle. All three are good, but the first is too childish for even me to truly enjoy. I also messed around with the Kuroshitsuji DS game, which probably wouldn’t be that great of a game even if my Japanese reading skills were more comprehensive. On the 360, Resident Evil and Peggle, both of which I really like. On the Wii, Bit.Trip. Beat, which is one of my favorite games to ever come out for the console. It’s a good time for games!
Dyson: I tried out Peggle. It’s cool, but not terribly diverting. If I had and office job that I was constantly slacking of at, I would play the shit out of Peggle, but not at home on my free time. I’m also, intermittently playin through Mirror’s Edge. I like this game, you can all die if you disagree.
I also want to play the Hatsworth game, but I’m having a bit of trouble not finding it on my usual not sites 😛
DMV: I’ve been playing Homework and Accidentally Sleep Through Class, which are fantastic. A bit of Shadow of the Colossus, too, but not much.
J. Ross: I’ve played nothing except one game of Left 4 Dead because of work.
Boo.
Ashley: Yeah, I haven’t had the time to play much myself. Finished Retro Game Challenge, started up Secret of Mana, played a bit of Bit.Trip Beat (I have the same sentiments as Mr. Holmes), and had exactly 20 minutes with Henry Hatsworth before Anthony took it off to GDC with him. Pffff.
Anthony: It’s even more fun to play Henry Hatsworth when it means your girlfriend can’t.
