Modders are one step closer to PS VR2 PC support

Work in progress.

The PlayStation VR2 isn’t natively compatible with PCs, which is a disappointment to some players. Since the headset launched, modders have been attempting to change this, and it appears that a significant breakthrough has been made.

Mediator Software revealed that it has gotten the PS VR2 to work in SteamVR. Currently, it only works under a narrow set of conditions. It is AMD-only and it requires DP-AUX emulator hardware. You’ll also require a VirtualLink port on the GPU or the BizLink VirtualLink adapter.

The modders have experience with VR, as they’re the creators of iVRy Driver, an app that lets you use your iPhone, Android, GearVR, Oculus Mobile, or Sony PSVR headset as a Virtual Reality Headset for your PC. They have revealed that they have had a tough time with the PS VR2, describing it as the “first consumer VR headset that needed a hardware ‘hack’ to make it work on a PC.”

This isn’t the only project Mediator Software is busy with. It is also attempting the ambitious task of getting streaming headsets to work on the PS5. There are other modders also attempting to expand the capabilities of the PS VR2, including Rad, a team that managed to enable the sideloading of 3D videos on the PS VR.
