PlayStation Portable version of LittleBigPlanet will resemble LittleBigPlanet

A few days ago, Sony announced a bunch of games for the PlayStation Portable. One of those is the long-rumored PSP version of Media Molecule’s LittleBigPlanet. Marketing manager Mark Valledor tossed a few fact morsels to the masses via the official PlayStation blog yesterday afternoon. The juiciest tidbit is that Media Molecule isn’t handling the portable property; Sony’s Cambridge studio has the job.

Even though the property is under alien guidance, Sony’s Cambridge wing won’t try to reinvent the wheel. According to Valledor, the PSP version of LBP will mirror its PlayStation 3 cousin:

Building the game from the ground up, fans can expect new SackBoy adventures with the same play, create and share experience made just for gamers on-the-go — not to mention, brand new levels and environments — all of which are being created specifically for the PSP!

Those are some hefty promises. It’s not hard to visualize a smaller, simpler LBP. Shrinking the wit, UI and charm of the PS3 original is a manageable task. Constructing and then nursing an environment that caters to the creative side of PSP owners will be the real challenge.
