BattleForge open beta primed and ready for download

If, like me, you have blown all your hard-earned money on Lemonheads and Mountain Dew (or should I say “Mtn Dew”) but need more videogames to play without resorting to piracy, there’s still hope yet. The open beta for online RTS/card game BattleForge went live today, and it’s looking like a fairly nice way to burn daylight.

This beta gives players access to 200 virtual BattleForge cards and all of the game’s maps. Those who take part will recieve an upgraded “Firedancer” unit after launch, while anyone who pre-orders will get one exclusive unit from each of the four factions.

BattleForge doesn’t come out on PC until March 24, so there’s still plenty of time to hone your skills. For a more in-depth look at the game’s multiplayer, go read Dyson’s lovingly crafted hands-on impressions. If that isn’t enough, Samit’s got you covered too.

Hit the jump for a zombified cat.
