It goes without saying that videogame-to-movie adaptations rarely ever deliver what gamers want. But considering Epic’s Gears of War already plays out like an interactive, wild f**king action movie, I’m cautiously optimistic about seeing the game on screen.
Horror Web site Bloody Disgusting caught up with the film’s director, Len Wiseman, at the red carpet premiere of Underworld: Rise of the Lycans. The director was more than happy to talk about the in-development Gears of War film.
“It’s going to be much more [on the] science fiction side of it than the creature side,” he explains. “I’ve always been much more of a sci-fi action fan than a horror fan.”
This is good news, seeing as how Gears of War isn’t, you know, a horror game. Wiseman says he’s writing the film’s script with Wanted scribe Chris Morgan, with the plans calling for a trilogy.
“Basically a harder edged Lord of the Rings,” he adds.
Considering Peter Jackson’s films picked up Oscars left and right, and most people have to get high to sit through an entire vidoegame film, I’d say Wiseman has a tough job ahead of him.
