Iran NOT joining the ESRB after all

Recommended Videos

During the Christmas period, we ran a story from The Tehran Times which states that Iran was joining America’s ESRB. It seemed weird at the time, and now we know why — it’s not really true.

GamePolitics got a statement from the ESRB which basically said that nobody ever “joins” the ESRB and that its ratings only apply to the US and Canada. The rating board confirmed that “Companies from other countries may submit for rating if the game is to be sold in the U.S. and/or Canadian market… Our ratings apply to games sold in the U.S. and Canada only.”

This is a shame. It was about the most interesting thing to have happened during this slow news season.
