Xbox 360 not ambitious enough for LittleBigPlanet in its current form

As soon as the PlayStation 3 gets itself a big exclusive title, it only seems a matter of time before there is talk of an Xbox 360 version. Final Fantasy XIII had it, Metal Gear Solid 4 continues to deal with it, and now even LittleBigPlanet has been discussed for the 360 by Media Molecule’s Alex Evans.

As reported by Eurogamer, the studio boss suggested that LBP could be done on the 360, but not in its current form:

The 360 is an incredibly capable machine, and you could make a user-generated content game on it, no question – just as you could make one on the PS2 or the Mega Drive, or any platform. But because we picked our platform, you go and you use every available bit of space, every little processor cycle.

The design decisions on the PS3 are huge, and I’m sure you realize that having a hard drive on every unit makes a difference. That’s another thing – if we didn’t have a hard drive on every unit, we’d have to scale back the ambition of what you could save and do.

So yes, you could make this game on the 360, but it’d be a different game.

So there you go. If Sackboy were to ever appear on the Xbox 360, it would be under a most different guise. Apparently the 360 just isn’t ambitious enough for LittleBigPlanet. Blu-ray is also a deal-breaker, with Evans claiming that LBP takes up around 40 GB of disc space, mainly thanks to the tutorial content.

Seems like Sony has nothing to fear from Microsoft with LittleBigPlanet.
