Sega pals up with ratings board on MadWorld

Despite pissy complaints about the violence of upcoming Platinum Games title MadWorld, the game still comes out on top as one of the most unique interactive experiences I’ve seen this year, and even a triple X rating couldn’t keep me away from it (if that doesn’t exist as a viable rating for a game yet, it should, along with the rating equivalent of “it may make you sh*t yourself with delight”).

It;s hard to say if Sega is concerned with how the game will sell based on their commentary, but we did find out that they are working closely with the ratings board to make sure it is rated accurately. From Sega Marketing Rep David Corliss:

“Yes, it’s violent. We don’t try to hide that, but as publishers, we see it as a fantasy game – it’s fantasy violence. It’s over the top. It’s cartoony. We also take the violence very seriously. We are working with the age rating boards, with PEGI and with BBFC. We’re not at the end of the game’s development, but we’re working with them now to make sure that we don’t go over the top.”

The truth of the matter is, there are quite a few gamers who feel that the Wii has very few selections for the hardcore gamer, although No More Heroes definitely placated them for a while. Give us some solid art direction, mix in a pinch of gore (okay, maybe a bucket) and you’ll soon see people happier with the Wii than they have been in a while.

Anyway, Condemned 2 went through the same process and it was still sufficiently blood-drenched, so I doubt we have anything to fear here. I hope the ratings board don’t make them take out the “Kill sh*t!” sign. Its mere existence tells me I’m playing a game with righteous balls.
