Kid fakes own kidnap for Nintendo money

A young man known only by his surname of Yang was charged by police Shangqiu, China, for conspiring to fake his own abduction. Yang worked with two men, Zhou and Pan, who pretended to be his kidnappers and extorted 10,000 yuan ($1,400) from the youth’s parents. They were caught when withdrawing the cash from an ATM.

Yang admitted to his own kidnap, claiming he did it because his parents “had refused to buy him a Nintendo computer.” I’m going to assume he means a Wii and not a Famicom, because that really would be tightfisted of the parents.

Piracy has gotten so bad in China that people are now stealing themselves. When will the madness end?
