E3 08: New Wario Land: Shake It screens are absolutely gorgeous

After yesterday’s widely panned Nintendo press conference (seriously, go back and read these comments — yikes!), we were given a press kit with a bunch of Nintendo assets to look over. While most of these press releases and screenshots concerned the games focused on during the conference (Wii Sports Resort, Wii Music, etc.), I found some brand new images of upcoming Wii title Wario Land: Shake It!.

Before reading any further you really need to check out the screens in the below gallery. If you are like me, you must be thinking to yourself: “Why the heck did Nintendo not show off this game at the conference?!” Even stranger, Wario Land: Shake It! is not even playable on the show floor! Seriously, what the heck?!

In this classic 2D side-scrolling platformer, Wario waggles his way through many varied stages full of treasure shaking goodness! By holding the Wiimote sideways and shaking it, players can shake enemies, free coins from treasure bags, and even cause earthquakes! While the concept almost borders on too much waggle, one can’t deny the beauty of the graphics. Check out the giant boss creature; all those jaw-dropping, hand-painted backgrounds; the cartoon look of the characters; THE SUBMARINE!

I am salivating for more information on Wario Land: Shake It!. Gaaaaawd, I wish this was on the show floor! With a looming release date of September 2008, I am shocked (SHOCKED!) that Nintendo hasn’t been focusing more attention on this promising looking title.

What do you think? Do you adore the look and feel of this game? Does Wario Land: Shake It! give you hope that Nintendo still has all gamers in mind?
