Ubisoft CEO finds pleasure in Nintendo peripherals

Ubisoft Montreal’s CEO Yannis Mallet is certainly one of those guys that really likes videogames. In an interview with Gamasutra, Mallet gets wistful when talking about Nintendo’s interface and peripherals, and asks the eternal question of “Where does the pleasure come from?” when specifically referring to the upcoming Wii Motion Plus add-on. His love of ponderous thoughts of oceans, peripherals, and baby doves doesn’t just end with the Wii MotionPlus. Later in the interview he talks about the Balance Board and how consumers simply need to try it out.

I cannot help but think of Shaun White Wii, which is definitely a must-try. It’s so intuitive. You don’t need your brain to do that interpolation work, because it’s so seamless, and then you immerse yourself into that experience. Oh yeah, definitely. It’s really good.

I really like videogames, but I’m not exactly sure if I’m willing to use the language that Mallet speaks with as I write about the medium. It’s great to be excited about the Wii MotionPlus, but asking where the pleasure involved in it is? That’s like asking Denis Dyack what part of his irreverent industry talk makes him feel big and strong.
