Death March Club’s opening cinematic channels Zero Escape pretty hard

Hell is for children

It’s been quite some time since we’ve heard anything about Death March Club, the joint venture between Zero Escape’s Kotaro Uchikoshi and Danganronpa’s Kazutaka Kodaka. With a description that sounded like an evolution of the child-killing series before, I was intrigued to see what the two could come up with. Both of those respective franchises are quality and I’m always down for more crazy murder mysterious.

Much to my surprise, the team was present at the Tokyo Game Show to show off the game. Wouldn’t you know it? It looks like Zero Escape meets Danganronpa. How wild! Seriously, though, this looks pretty damn interesting. I’ve always loved the oppressive atmosphere of Zero Escape and the hilariously sadistic figure of Monokuma was a joy while playing through Dangonronpa. Putting those two things together should make for a really compelling adventure game.

Interestingly, though, Death March Club actually looks to be more than just talking and solving crimes. There are platforming segments and crate pushing. Could this be evoking some Zelda charm? I’m probably jumping to conclusions, but I’m basically sold on the game. 2020 can’t come soon enough.
