In mid-2018, much to the chagrin of Castlevania fans everywhere, Konami announced Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls: a mobile multiplayer series spinoff. Since then we haven’t really heard much about it, but Konami is changing that with a new trailer straight out of TGS.

Always one to mine nostalgia, the clip starts off with a loving walk through Castlevania memory lane before getting to the Souls footage. All your favorites are back, like Alucard, Simon, Charlotte, Maria, and Shanoa. It’ll sport a story mode in addition to full co-op play, with features a “kill as many things as possible in the least amount of time” mode.

It’s very reminiscent of the “all-stars” approach of Castlevania HD, also known as Castlevania: Harmony of Despair, which was not only fantastic, but released in a simpler time before Konami gave Kojima the boot and canceled P.T. I’m going to be real: I don’t hate it.

I like the return of the super-secret Japanese government agent Genya Arikado (who is part of an organization that wants to stop Dracula from returning), whom the story evidently focuses on. Maybe I’m just desperate for another real Castlevania game. Either way, we’ll see how it fares when it eventually arrives on iOS and Google Play.
