Nintendo’s new fitness device for Switch is bonkers

Is this peak Nintendo?

Nintendo is closing out a busy week of video game news with one more announcement: whatever the hell this fitness contraption is. Today’s first-look demonstration raises so many questions.

The video shows actors running in place, doing poses, and just generally exercising indoors while holding a ring-like device that has some flex to it. We can’t actually see what they’re looking at on-screen, but this “new experience,” as Nintendo puts it, involves strapping a Joy-Con to one of your legs and securing a second controller within the ring itself, presumably for motion-tracking purposes.

First impressions? Switch Fit (???) looks absolutely wild. I may not be into Pilates – on the surface, this as-yet-unnamed device seems similar to a magic circle but I’m curious to see the accompanying software. We’ll learn more details about Nintendo’s latest fitness experiment on September 12.

A decade from now, this thing will probably live in a box next to my DK Bongos.
