Realtime Worlds to give APB an open beta

Crackdown developer Realtime Worlds has released a statement that Chris Dye, who had previously been employed at Codemasters, has been hired as the new Community Relations Manager for their upcoming MMO All Points Bulletin. The real news, though, was tucked away towards the bottom.

“This appointment signals the start of a new phase for APB where we can interact more fluidly with both gaming sites, and our potential future player base.  This is an important milestone for the game now that we are transitioning into Alpha and moving towards the full public beta of APB,” Business Development Manager Mario Rizzo announced.

APB allows players to join two competing factions, the Enforcers and Criminals, to engage in some virtual cops and robbers mayhem. Success is said to hinge on player skill, rather than high levels or rare equipment.

No specific platform for the public beta has yet been announced, but seeing as how Realtime Worlds had previously stated that the PC version would be given priority over the console ports, it seems likely that’s where we’ll see it.

Realtime Worlds also sent over two new pieces of concept art showing gang members from the Aces and the Zombies, which are viewable below.

(10.06.2008) Realtime Worlds (www.realtimeworlds.com) today announced that Chris ‘Ulric’ Dye has joined their team as Community Relations Manager for the highly anticipated MMO APB (www.apb.com).

Chris will begin the process of building the already growing community interest around APB through various channels including, but not limited to, fan sites, community forums and social networking sites.

“APB is at an extremely exciting and important stage, and we can now begin the process of introducing to the gaming community the various aspects of what will make up this genre defining MMO”, commented Chris.

Mario Rizzo, Business Development Manager added “This appointment signals the start of a new phase for APB where we can interact more fluidly with both gaming sites, and our potential future player base.  This is an important milestone for the game now that we are transitioning into Alpha and moving towards the full public beta of APB.”
