Bungie plans to make a non-Destiny game in the next five years

Big things coming by 2025

For the better part of the 2000s, Bungie is a studio that has been fortunate enough to focus on a single mega revenue-driving franchise at a time. First, there was a decade of Halo. Since then, it has been full steam ahead on Destiny. At some point in the next half-decade, Bungie will branch out a bit.

In an interview with IGN, Bungie CEO Pete Parsons stresses that the company has its eye on diversifying. He says “Our vision, ultimately, through 2025 is to become one of the world’s best entertainment companies.” That includes starting a new property.

Specifically, Parsons mentions that Bungie needs to “make sure we transform Destiny [into a single evolving world] and that we have other franchises within the marketplace.” He continues “But part of our vision is also to become a multi-franchise entertainment company” while also resolving to bolster Bungie as a publishing group.

This isn’t the first time Bungie has expressed its intentions to make a new game. Last year, Chinese publisher NetEase invested $100 million for a minority stake in the developer. Bungie sought external funding specifically for the purpose of creating a new franchise. Because of that money, we should see Bungie’s plans to morph into a multi-series developer come to fruition within five years or so.
