Final Fantasy XIV‘s Shadowbringers expansion came out of the gate like a bat out of hell, wowing critics and fans alike as one of the highest-rated Final Fantasy games of all time.

The expansion’s journey is just beginning though, as patch 5.05 (not even the first major patch) drops today, which heralds in the savage (hard) raid tier for Eden’s Gate, the first four raid battles of Shadowbringers (eight more will drop by the end of 2020). Beyond that a new treasure romp the Dungeons of Lyhe Ghiah is also live, as are slight Monk, Samurai, Red Mage, and Summoner buffs, as well as a big Astrologian rework. Folks have been clowning on the Astrologian (“Astro,” or AST in-game) for weeks, so this is a rather timely alteration.

In case you’re new to Final Fantasy XIV (welcome), the basic patch cadence is as follows. In a few months we’ll get patch 5.1, which will bring a new EX trial (boss fight) into the mix, as well as an expected ultimate encounter (read: a battle that less than 1% of the playerbase will complete), more housekeeping, and of course, the first wing of the NieR 24-person raid, which are more casual than the aforementioned savage and ultimate fights.

In patch history is any indication (and it is, as Square Enix has been following the same rough schedule for six years now), Shadowbringers 5.2 will drop sometime in early 2020, followed by 5.3 (mid-2020), 5.4 (late 2020), and 5.5 (early 2021). What’s after that? A new expansion!
