Bethesda boss confidently states that their Switch releases are ‘hugely popular,’ cements future support

‘All the stuff we did’

When the Nintendo Switch was announced, it had the token ferocious initial wave of Nintendo support with only a few other parties joining in. Many publishers, both western and eastern based, were in “wait and see” mode after the Wii U, but quickly jumped in as early as six months after its explosive launch. Some regretted getting into the fray so late and even formed entire teams around Switch development.

Bethesda was one of those one foot in one foot out studios with late to the party ports, but now they’re undoubtedly in the front lines with a simul-release for Doom Eternal on PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Switch. The reason they got to that monumental moment? They’ve been really happy with everything up until that point — ports of Wolfenstein II, Doom, and Skyrim.

IGN had a chance to speak with Bethesda senior voice president of marketing and general Bethesda boss Pete Hines about the situation at Gamescom, and he shared the company’s enthusiasm for the system: “It was hugely popular – all of the stuff that we did. I think folks enjoyed and appreciated – and we wanted to make sure to say right up front that this is a title we want to bring to Switch, and we think it’s gonna be another awesome experience.”

Time will tell if they stick to it, but it’s entirely possible that from Doom Eternal on we could see a lot more day-one Switch releases.
