Smug heroes under siege in Fortnite trailer

Development taking longer than two weeks

Epic Games’ Fortnite was first revealed way back in 2011 by Cliff Blezsinki. Now, some six years later, we get a scene-setting trailer of the ‘building-action game’ set for early access release later this month ahead of its expected full release in 2018.

The lengthy cinematic introduces us to Fortnite‘s team of heroes, as they furiously compete to out-zing and out-smirk each other, whilst protecting doe-eyed innocents from an onslaught of the game’s antagonists, the Husks. It also showcases the games ‘building-action’ concept, essentially marrying Minecraft-esque construction with class-based shooters. It’s an interesting idea, I remember loving Gears of War 3‘s Horde mode, which had similar base-building elements.

Players wishing to get in on early access will need to pay up. Currently, pre-order packs of characters, weapons, loot and the like range from around $40 to over $100. Fortnite’s early access launches on PS4, PC and Xbox One July 25. The full, free-to-play game is expected to launch next year.
