It’s been a good while since we’ve heard or seen anything regarding these titles, but Tetsuya Nomura, who is directing both games, is determined to show what he can. While he was not given permission to show video, he brought a couple screenshots to the Monaco Anime Game International Conference (MAGIC) 2017.

The Kingdom Hearts III image shows Sora battling a new Heartless in the Olympus Coliseum using the Keyblade in “Power Form” in which it has transformed into a shield. It can also be turned into a chariot.

Combat and the first boss of Final Fantasy VII are shown. Nomura explains their progress with combat, “I’ve put a lot of attention into the combat system, and it’s going to happen without interruption. In meetings, we’ve had a lot of problems with the grenades (there won’t be friendly fire with grenades).”

Regarding the first boss, “It’s a Scorpion, and the scenery will be partly destructible. Sorry, I asked to show a video, but the company refused. The menus are not yet final, but I will talk more on another occasion.”

The remake will certainly have to be larger than the original game to account for the new combat system and perspective change. I like that they’re at least sticking as close to the original game as possible and equally excited to see what new things they fill the world with.
