First leaked trailer for Shenmue III looks true to form

I don’t really care if the character models are perfect

Shenmue III was announced all the way back in June of 2015, and it’s set for release sometime before the end of this year. There’s just one problem — we haven’t really…seen it yet at length, outside of still screens and some location-heavy clips.

That changes this week. Shown off live at the Magic Monaco event at the Grimaldi Forum this past weekend with a big “do not record” notification, it seems like we have our first inkling of what Shenmue III looks like in action. The character designs, the music, the locales, and the thematic QTEs, battles, and arcade machine? Check! This is an extended, behind closed doors press-only version of the Gamescom trailer we got last year, and much more indicative of what we’re actually getting.

It’s all looking pretty authentic, even if the character models themselves seem rough. If this is what’s arriving later this year I’ll be okay with it on paper even if it looks like a game from 1999.
