PlayStation 4 global shipments set to surpass PlayStation 3 numbers

Console sees amazing Holiday 2017 sales

Sony have released their latest Quarterly Financial Report, and it seems the PlayStation juggernaut rolls on, with the PS4 shifting a staggering nine million units over October to December 2017.

This surge in Holiday sales puts the console’s lifetime figures around the 76.5 million mark, gaining ground on the the numbers for the previous generation’s PlayStation 3. The seventh-generation console, which first launched in 2006, is believed to have shipped around 83-86 million units over the course of its run.

Of course, there is a long, long way to go before the PS4 even sniffs at the numbers achieved by the original PlayStation, and especially, the PlayStation 2, which stand around 103 million and over 155 million respectively, but the ongoing success of the PS4 console, only four years into its lifespan, cannot be denied.
