Dan Hsu is starting a video series on board games

Going Analog

Part of my personal mission at Destructoid over the past several years has been to cover tabletop gaming as it relates to the predominantly video game crowd. The fruits of my efforts pale in comparison to shows like Wil Wheaton’s Tabletop as far as getting people into the hobby, but that’s more for board games in general. Now, eminent former game journalist Dan Hsu is taking a more video game-y angle to tabletop coverage.

In the pilot episode of Going Analog, Hsu and others (Anna Kipnis, Brianne Whitney, and Seanbaby) talk about Level 7: Omega Protocol and how it’s reminiscent of the XCOM series of video games. It’s a bit of a puzzling choice on the surface, because there exists an XCOM board game, but I think the point is to introduce video gamers to something they might not otherwise give a second look at.

Hsu has a calm, NPR-esque demeanor that’s easy to appreciate in a world of in-your-face “Hey it’s ya boy” YouTube content. This is a decent little thing to watch, and I’ll be following it for a bit to see where it goes. You can view the full first episode below.
