Ex-BioShock staff forming new studio, 2K Marin

According a job listing on Gamasutra (unearthed by Shacknews), some members of the BioShock development team appear to be forming a new game studio in the San Francisco Bay Area. Although the listing (which is searching for a lead animator) has since been altered, a Google cache of the posting (via 1UP) reveals the name of the new studio — 2K Marin.

Some of the people who created the award-winning “Bioshock” are starting up a new studio in the Bay Area called 2K Marin. We are looking for a character concept artist who can name all of the “Masters of the Universe” characters who had mustaches. That qualification, however, is less important than your DaVinci-like knowledge of anatomy coupled with drawing skills that easily put the entire Hanna-Barbara pantheon into question.

Clearly, the most important Masters of the Universe character who had a mustache was Skeletor … right? OK, so maybe I’m not the most qualified person for this position (was it Trap Jaw?), but this listing does pose an interesting question — what would former members of the 2K Boston (and/or 2K Australia) team be doing moving to the West Coast? And just what’s that Ken Levine fellow up to?

If the industry mystery Surfer Girl is correct, Levine is working on a new project (codenamed Project X), and the 2K Marin may be working on — you guessed it — BioShock 2.

[Thanks, Jonathan!]
