The next Hearthstone expansion is ‘Whispers of the Old Gods’

As expected

Today during a livestream event, Blizzard announced the next chapter in the Hearthstone saga — as was spoiled this morningWhispers of the Old Gods. It will be an expansion that quite literally deals with the Old Gods of the lore (C’Thun, Yogg-Saron, Y’Shaarj, and N’Zoth), nameless terrors that are pure evil.

134 new cards are a part of the update, and they’ve provided a few for your perusal, as well as a cinematic trailer. The expansion will be up for pre-order on March 14, at which point you can buy a 50-pack bundle for $49.99, complete with a creepy card back. It will arrive in “late April or early May.” More info will come on March 21, and the standard format system will accompany the release.

It’s great to see more classic Warcraft references making their way in, but I’m generally not a fan of the card-only approach, so call me when the next real adventure-level expansion hits. The good news is that players who log in near the launch window will net three packs for free, and the first pack will always net you a free Beckoner of Evil and C’Thun.
