Video, screens and semi-hands-on on Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games (Wii/DS)

A new trailer, as well as plenty of screenshots for both the DS and Wii version, have all just come out. I was really looking forward to playing this game and I finally did have a chance last week on the Wii. Unfortunately, I walked away extremely disappointed.

I didn’t play too many of the events to give a proper hands-on report, but what I did play just left a bad taste in my mouth. I did some fencing, skit shooting, archery, and hurdles and the more I played, the more uninterested I got. I think the allure of Sega mascots Vs Nintendo mascots has been giving false hope to a lot of people — and will undoubtedly sell massive quantities just for that fact.

The controls are simple, the characters look extremely nice, but there’s is no depth at all to Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games. Which I guess is the point as since this is aimed at the casual market. Only problem is, it’s the die hards and hardcore old school gamers who have been looking forward to something of this caliber the most — Sega Vs Nintendo.

At least there’s still Brawl for that though, right?
