Blizzard’s Overwatch isn’t free-to-play

$40 on PC, $60 on consoles

Even more Overwatch news out of BlizzCon. Following this morning’s confirmation that the team-based shooter is headed to consoles, Blizzard has come out with pricing details. I would have pinned this as a free-to-play game in line with Heroes of the Storm, but that’s not the case.

The standard Overwatch experience is $40. It’s PC-only, and it includes 21 playable characters.

There’s also a $60 version, dubbed the Origins Edition, for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. This package comes with five skins in Overwatch, the Tracer character in Heroes of the Storm, and some other digital bonuses for World of Warcraft, Hearthstone, Diablo III, and StarCraft II.

Finally, Blizzard is selling an obligatory Collector’s Edition on all three platforms, complete with a visual sourcebook, soundtrack, and Soldier: 76 statue. That’ll run you $130, big spender.

Overwatch will be available in spring 2016.

I’m fine with the price tag, but I would have preferred this to be free. I don’t mind slowly earning currency in Blizzard’s other free-to-play titles so long as I’m having fun, and I usually am.
