Sony: ‘There are no first party titles that are in development for the PlayStation Vita’

As we all expected, something is rotten in Denmark when it comes to Sony’s position on the PlayStation Vita. Speaking to Sony Computer Entertainment executive vice president Masayasu Ito, 4Gamer recently uncovered that there are no first-party Vita games in development.

Instead, Ito noted the wide variety of third-party titles available, but stressed, “Currently, there are no first party titles that are in development for the PlayStation Vita. Third-party companies are working hard on the PlayStation Vita, so we here at SCE have strategized to focus on our new platform of PlayStation 4.”

Yep, all those great third-party titles on the horizon such as Fallout 4 remote play” and “that other game you can remote play.” “Strategy” is also an odd term to use, as I would have gone with “abandonment.”

Sony recently came out and blamed the mobile market for the Vita’s failure, but again, I place most of that blame on the company. It handled the launch of the Vita terribly, forced people to buy expensive, proprietary memory cards while 3DS owners could just cheaply purchase SD cards at a fraction of the price, and gave up on the platform far too early.

They may be winning the console war in terms of sales, but I find myself clutching my PSP fondly, remembering the days when Sony knew how to market a handheld. Now we may never see one again from it.
